(ĐN)- A meeting was held at Dong Nai Library on December 9 to mark Vietnam’s Population Day (Dec. 26), affirming the importance of the population and family planning programme for the socio-economic development.
Since 2011 until now, the province has made on-going efforts to improve population quality, maintain a reasonable birth rate and ensure productive health-care services.
Accordingly, the birth rate per woman has dropped to 2.03 in 2015. The rate of people using modern contraceptive methods reached 76 percent at present, and the sex ratio at birth to be curbed at 107 boys to 100 girls.
In the 2016-2020, the locality aims to reach a prenatal screening rate of 70 percent and the rate of newborn screening of 60%. Particularly, education campaigns will continue to be held to raise public awareness on family planning and gender equality.
On this occasion, 23 collectives and 43 individuals were awarded certificates of merit for their outstanding contributions to the population work.
