The authorities of Dong Nai Province will upgrade a rehabilitation center in Xuan Loc District after more than 560 drug addicts broke out of the facility on Sunday night, the Vietnam News Agency reports. By Monday evening, 406 addicts had been brought back to the center.
The overload at the center was among reasons why the addicts wanted to get out as many of them were stressed due to treatment and cramped living conditions, said Ho Van Loc, vice chairman of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
The center was designed to accommodate 800 people, but at present it is providing treatment for nearly 1,500. The provincial government said in the long term, it will invest VND15 billion to expand and upgrade the facilit.
