Addressing at the conference, Vice Chairman Vo Van Chanh of the provincial People’s Committee urged the localities to hold more educational campaigns to raise awareness of both businesses and locals of the protection work, further boost construction of waste treatment projects and complete the plan on removing serious polluters.
He called for stricter inspection and monitoring of the observance of environmental regulations by operational projects, firstly those illegally discharging waste into the environment.
Over the past five years, Dong Nai invested more than VND2,750 billion in environmental protection. Besides, the province also raised more than 7,200 billion from enterprises to build 15 waste treatment projects.
So far, all industrial zones in the province have built their own wastewater treatment systems, more than 91 percent solid and hazardous wastes were collected and treated and over 98.5 percent of rural people access clean water.
