To ensure the completion of new bridge before June 30, the Transport Minister asked relevant agencies to hasten the building of the bridge aligned with the upgrade of stations such as Ho Nai and Bien Hoa to meet the demands for the transport of passengers and cargos while the North-South railway line is being interrupted.

According to Vietnam Railway, the collapse of the Ghenh Bridge which is used for both rail and vehicle transportation causes a loss of VND6-8 billion per day for the railway sector.

Director of the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration (VIWA) Hoang Hong Giang suggested the Ministry of Transport review all weak bridges to put forth solutions to upgrade and repair old and weak ones.

He noted that there exist several reefs near the Ghenh Bridge which are very dangerous for the travel of ships and barges, asking the Ministry of Transport to quickly examine and take measures to handle these reefs to ensure traffic safety.

The reconstruction of a new Ghenh bridge which collapsed on March 20 was commenced on April 1.
