(ĐN) - A meeting was held on March 17 by Dong Nai provincial Steering Committee on Food Safety to deploy plans to ensure food safety in the coming time.

Accordingly, interdisciplinary inspection teams will be set up to check collective kitchens across the province.

Food safety and hygiene in the locality is still a serious issue, with unsafe meat and vegetables being sold in markets.

In 2015, 4 food poisoning cases were reported in the province with 167 people becoming victims, a rise in both the numbers of cases and victims compared to the previous year.

In addition to the reinforced inspections of collective kitchens in industrial parks, universities and colleges, the committee will also coordinate with the provincial Labour Union to ask enterprises to obey food safety and hygiene regulations.

Last year, the functional forces detected more than 1,100 violations related to food safety with total fines of some VND2.5 billion.
