Vietnam dispatches helicopter to rescue foreigners

Meanwhile, ships of naval and border units in Vung Tau and Dong Nai provinces and Ho Chi Minh City are prepared to join the rescue when ordered.

Earlier, the Vietnam’s Navy has dispatched helicopter EC-225 for search and rescue mission. One Pilipino crew member was saved and two bodies were found.

On January 2nd, the freighter lost contact and was sunk while carrying 46,400 tones of iron ore from Malaysia to China. Having received the information, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC) sent the SAR 413 for rescue mission.

* In spite of high waves and strong wind, Ship SAR 27-01 of the Vietnam MRCC, on January 3rd, could still take Edward Cupisz, 62, on board Malta Ship, ATACAMA, to Nha Trang Port for treatment.

Edward Cupisz had been seriously injured while working on the ship which was on the way from China to Singapore. Having received the news, the Vietnam MRCC dispatched Ship SAR 27-01 to save the troubled man.
