VND20 bil for protecting wild elephants in Dong Nai

(ĐN)- Dong Nai is deploying a VND20 billion project on urgent protection of wild elephants in in the locality. Of the total, VND15 billion came from central budget and VND5 billion from local budget.

(ĐN)- Dong Nai is deploying a VND20 billion project on urgent protection of wild elephants in in the locality. Of the total, VND15 billion came from central budget and VND5 billion from local budget.

The project is aimed at preventing wild elephants from attacking or causing damage to locals, while also protecting the animals from being harmed by poachers, said Deputy Head of the provincial Forest Protection Department Le Viet Dung.

Under the project, the province will build some electronic fences in the natural forests of Vinh Cuu, Tan Phu and Dinh Quan districts to protect the living environment of both local residents and the dwindling elephant population.

Besides, the project will focus on assessing the elephant population, distribution and movements, while planning the expansion of their habitat to provide sustainable natural living conditions.

As known, the total wild elephant population in Dong Nai is 11 individuals.
