Priest Tran Xuan Thao, Chairman of the Dong Nai province’s Committee for Catholic Solidarity said local Catholics, over the past years, actively engaged in patriotic emulation movements launched by the provincial authorities. In 2014 alone, Catholics in Dong Nai mobilized over VND 125 billion to fund charity and social activities in the locality.
Thanks to the funding, 160 households with housing difficulties got houses, 600 children were provided with free eye and heart surgeries, many poor families were also given loans for economic development and health care treatment. The fund was also spent on building rural roads.
Besides, local Catholics have actively joined in drives on building a cultural lifestyle in residential areas, contributing to the province’s efforts in fulfilling its goal of building new-style rural areas.
During his visit to the Xuan Loc Bishop Office on the occasion of 2014 Christmas, Secretary Tran Dinh Thanh of the provincial Party Committee highlighted great contributions made by the Catholics and Protestants to the development of the province. He believes that Catholic followers in the locality will continue to make practical contributions to the province’s socio-economic development.
