The event was attended by Vice President, Nguyen Thi Doan, who is Chairwoman of the Vietnam Children's Support Fund Council, along with leaders of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and city and provincial representatives.
As part of the programme ‘Together with Children to School’, the scholarships, worth VND3 million each, aim to support 550 poor students who overcame difficult circumstances to do well in their studies. The 50 best students in the provinces and city received bigger scholarships, worth VND5 million each per year, over five years.
The ‘Together with Children to School’ programme was launched by Vice President Doan in September 2012.
The programme is now being implemented in 58 provinces and cities nationwide with nearly 10,000 scholarships worth nearly VND30 billion in total granted to needy students.
