(ĐN)- Since the beginning this year, nearly 3,500 AO/dioxin victims in Dong Nai have been benefiting social welfare.
In the period, the provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin have mobilized VND1.84 billion to provide support for the local victims, helping them develop their production and stabilize their lives, provide no-interest loans, built and repaired charity houses, awarded scholarships to students who are the victims and their relatives, etc.
In the second half, the association will continue to raise fund to provide better support for the local AO/dioxin victims.
Dong Nai is now home to over 13,000 AO/dioxin victims and they are suffering both physical and mental pains caused by dioxin.
The province is one of the hardest affected localities, with 56 percent of its area contaminated by AO/dioxin. In particular, Dong Nai’s Bien Hoa airport is the country’s second “hot spot” of dioxin, as it was the place where the US military stored herbicides.
