The VFF president was speaking at an April 11 meeting with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in Hanoi, to discuss some theoretical and practical issues on cultural development over the past 30 years of doi moi (renovation) process.
Affirming that culture is a product of historical development, Nhan said preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture must go in line with development rules.
Vietnamese cultural values comprise of patriotism, hard work, family, respect for ancestors, national solidarity, bravery, resilience to overcome difficulties, as well as innovation. The development of culture aligned with Vietnamese values is only possible when built on solid foundations, he said, adding that the first and foremost foundation for the existence and development of culture is family, followed by villages, schools, workplace, and the community.
Nhan emphasised that family is where Vietnamese people are nurtured and educated with the values and ethics important to a good life.
He suggested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism continue to make clear solutions about the development of Vietnam’s culture and its people and clarify conflicts between culture and human resources development with the development of a market economy, as well as the role of the young generation in cultural development and construction of family.
