Chairing a regular cabinet meeting in Ha Noi on Saturday, he said that first and foremost, a sufficient supply of essential goods must be ensured while maintaining control of product quality and food safety.
He suggested that localities nationwide take their cue from price stabilisation programmes carried out by HCM City and Ha Noi.
After the holiday, the State Bank of Viet Nam should make further efforts to spur credit growth to facilitate production as also prevent development of the black market in lending, the PM said.
He told the transport sector to sharpen its safety focus in managing the busier traffic during the long holiday, which begins tomorrow and ends on February 5.
He also requested the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and local administrations to pay due attention to the poor, the elderly, families of war heroes and victims of natural disasters.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported at the meeting that there was abundant supply of essential goods for Tet, with 33 localities nationwide stocking up goods worth VND1.5 trillion (US$71.4 million) for sale in nearly 10,000 outlets at stabilised prices.
The ministries of Transport and Public Security said they have put in place plans designed to make travel during the holiday convenient and safe, and to maintain political security and social order.
The meeting heard that concerned agencies nation-wide have stepped up food quality inspections and other disease prevention activities.
Other agencies said cultural programmes including public concerts have been prepared to entertain the population during the festival.
All units are on alert against criminal activities and those who smuggle and use firecrackers will be strictly punished, the meeting was informed.
The Prime Minister commended ministries and local governments for the positive socio-economic progress made in January.
The consumer price index during the month was up 0.69 per cent, the lowest for the period in the past five years.
The industrial production index rose 3 per cent year-on-year, while nearly 6,900 new firms were set up with a start-up capital of over VND43.7 trillion ($2 billion ), corresponding rises of 27.7 and 79.5 per cent over the same period last year.
However, the export value of $10.3 billion marked a year-on-year reduction of 10.8 per cent, it was reported at the cabinet meeting.
