Police in Dong Nai Province have decided to prosecute the people who got into a pitched battle to steal cases of beer that fell of a truck on December 4.

Ho Kim Hau, 30, was driving a lorry with 1,500 cartons of Tiger beer from HCM City to Binh Thuan when 1,000 cases fell off the vehicle and on the road near Tam Hiep roundabout in Bien Hoa city.

Hundreds of people flocked to the spot and began to fight with each other to steal some of the beer, ignoring his desperate cries and tears.

But during the police investigation, a number of people returned the stolen beer.

The owner said nearly 1,000 cartons worth VND310 million ($14,600) had been stolen.

The Dong Nai police said they have identified some of the looters.
