At the ceremony, participants paid a minute's silence in memory of the traffic victims.
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman Tran Van Vinh of the provincial People's Committee called for all people to abide by traffic regulations, drive safely and share the grief suffered by victims’ families.
16 people die every ten days on the roads in Dong Nai, needlessly taking away lives and burdening the State budget.
Traffic deaths in the province the first ten months of 2013 decreased by 20 percent year-on-year, but the number of deaths were still high with over 300 victims.
At the event, the committee awarded certificates of merit to 5 collectives and 15 individuals for their contributions in organizing the “Intelligent Traffic” contest, which aims to raise awareness about traffic safety among pupils, students.
After the event, the province’s leader and representatives of departments and sectors visited and presented gifts to patients caused by accidents at Dong nai General Hospital.
Remembrance Day aims to highlight the severity and consequences of traffic problems across the province, and to raise awareness of the public about the issue.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is held on the third Sunday of November each year.
