(ĐN)- Dong Nai Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has recently cooperated with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to organize a conference to review the implementation of the project on the Prevention and Elimination of Child Labor.

The over VND2.2 million project was implemented in July 2011 in Vinh Cuu district’s Ma Da and Phu Ly communes, and Dinh Quan district’s Phu Ngoc and Phu Cuong communes to support children and young people involved in the worst forms of child labour to switch to other suitable jobs.

Over the past two years, the project has helped change the involved parties’ awareness of child labour. It has compiled records of 800 working children in the target communes and put in place measures to support them.

Accordingly, 600 of them have been provided with support to return home and given access to healthcare services, vocational training and employment, to help families stabilise their lives and raise incomes.

The ILO-backed project aims raise public awareness on child labor, provide vocational training for children, and give equipment and facilities to schools. Besides, it also rescue child laborers from hazardous work conditions.
