The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Committee for the Advancement of Women (NCAW) and a high-level seminar, which focused on discussing measures to increase the percentage of women’s participation in senior level government, in Hanoi on October 17.
The events were attended by State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and Secretary of the CPVCC, Director of the CPVCC Commission for Mass Mobilisation Ha Thi Khiet.
Addressing the ceremony, State Vice President Doan praised the results of the NCAW during the last 20 years. She noted the NCAW contributed to increase the participation of women in senior level government positions and improve the role of women in process of renewal and international integration.
Delegates at the seminar focused on discussing long-term solutions to realise the target that female representatives account for at least 35% of all NA deputies and People’s Council members in the 2016 election, as regulated in the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the period of 2011-2020.
Also on the same day, the Hanoi Women’s Union held a Creative Festival for women which featured 30 booths that introduced innovative products and products from traditional trade villages.
At the festival, the Union honoured 106 good heads of women’s union branches and 10 outstanding women including female intellectuals who have had many successes in scientific research, women athletes who have gained high achievements and business women who had many contributions to the community and the society.
Five former Chairwomen of the Hanoi Women’s Union, who have significantly contributed to women’s movements and the cause of construction and development of the capital in recent years, were also presented third-class Independence Medal and Labour Medal.
On the occasion, a conference was held by the Thua Thien – Hue provincial Women’s Union to honour 83 typical women in the province. In the past five years, 100% of districts, towns and cities and 150/152 women’s unions at grassroots levels signed contracts with banks to entrust loans to poor and near the poverty line women.
