Inspectors also found chemicals to be used to deodorize and make fresh the rotten organs.

On August 2, a joint inspection team comprising anti-environmental crime policemen and veterinary officers raided an establishment specializing in chicken organs in Tan Hiep Ward, Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai province, which is some 40 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City.

Inspectors detected and seized 21 large bags of chicken’s organs weighing about 1 ton and nearly 200 kg of fat that were all stinking and rotten.

Inspectors also found 5.5 kg of unidentified chemicals to be used to deodorize the rotten organs and make them fresh and firm again.

They also found many processed organs being stored in a freezer pending delivery to markets.

The establishment’s owner, Nguyen Thi Hong Tram, 40, confessed to inspectors that she bought these items from a slaughterhouse in Bien Hoa City and that she would process them with specific chemicals before selling them to traders from different markets.

The authorities destroyed all the rotten organs last Saturday.
