The in-house kitchens at garments manufacturer Kotop Vina, in southern Dong Nai Province, where three separate cases of food poisoning occurred recently, have been found to have violated several food hygiene and safety regulations.

The cases of food poisoning were reported on July 23, 26 and August 2, with nearly 200 of the company’s workers being hospitalised after the first incident.

The head of the provincial Department of Food Safety and Hygiene Nguyen Dinh Binh said the kitchens were not yet in possession of a food safety and hygiene certificate and had failed to introduce sterilising equipment, on top of its sewerage system being grossly inadequate.

The kitchen was closed temporarily last Saturday as further investigations are ongoing and the company is urgently rectifying the situation.

The local authorities also prohibited the company from using its source of drinking water as it is being tested for signs of contamination.
