In a fire exchange with police who surrounded him, a robber with five wanted notices received two gunshot wounds and died later at a hospital in Dong Nai.
The killed robber was Vo Hoang Diep, 29, of Soc Trang Province, who was besieged in a house in Dinh Quan District at about 9 pm on May 29 by about 50 police officers, who came from the province and its two neighbors Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The siege was made after detectives discovered that Diep had come to the house in a car to visit Chau Thi Kim Phung, the house’s owner who was his girlfriend.
When policemen knocked at the house’s door they were responded by some shots fired from Diep in a room in the house.
Police then fired some shots into the air as a warning and called on him to surrender. But Diep did not give up. He instead held Phung – his de facto wife – and her two children as hostages and continued firing shots towards the police.
In face of such a dangerous situation, police gave him two shots that injured him severely. He died after being taken to the Dinh Quan District General Hospital in Dong Nai.
On searching the house, police found and seized a Colt 45 gun and tens of bullets, a hackbut, two swords, 8 stun guns, one scimitar, two military uniforms, two army hats, many driver’s licenses and vehicle certificates, five number plates, and a soldier certificate in the name of Nguyen Minh Vu.
Police also seized the 7-seat car Diep had driven to the house and a scooter allegedly owned by him.
Diep had been put under wanted list for five times on charges of robbery and swindling to appropriate assets, said Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tran Tien Dat from the Dong Nai Province Police Department.
Diep had committed many robberies and swindles in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces,
He had appropriated about VND1.7 billion (US$81,700) from the Agribank and VND470 million from a company. He had also robbed two taxis and appropriated a car, among other offenses, Dat said.
The first wanted notice against Diep was issued on December 6, 2010, the official said.
