The two-kilometer package No. 8 worth nearly VND1.15 trillion will have over 500 meters of bridge and be constructed in 24 months.
Previously, HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway was divided into two component projects, with the first carried out by HCMC from An Phu intersection to the expressway and the second which is to build the expressway executed by VEC.
However, as HCMC faced some difficulties when implementing the first component project, the Ministry of Transport assigned VEC to implement both components. Currently, 60% of the second component project is complete, and the project will be opened to traffic in 2014.
According to Le Manh Hung, director of the management unit for southern expressway projects, the construction of the road link to the expressway will take a lot of time due to the weak foundation.
Last week, VEC also announced the completion of the expressway project’s package 1A which built an overpass going through District 9 worth VND1.38 trillion.
HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway is 55 kilometers long, going through HCMC and Dong Nai Province. The expressway has a total investment of over VND18.88 trillion, with construction cost in the first phase financed by ODA loans and accounting for VND9.89 trillion.
It is an important section of the north-south expressway project. After completion, it will help connect major economic centers in southern provinces and shorten the routes from HCMC to Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces, facilitating goods transport to Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex.
