Police in Bien Hoa, Dong Nai province have arrested a bus driver and his assistant for using a knife and chain to attack two passengers last Saturday.
The driver, Nguyen Van Chinh, 49, and his 21-year-old aide Tran Van Truong were detained yesterday after they attacked two passengers with a flick knife and a chain.
The two, who are employees of the Dong Tien Transport and Tourism Cooperative in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, have been charged with intentional assault, police said.

At 4:10 on December 22, Nguyen Tien Dinh and Dinh’s stepfather Pham Van Minh, both from Bien Hoa, got on bus 60B-00405 on National Highway 51 to return to their home in Vung Tau.
The two passengers then had a quarrel with Chinh and Truong because Dinh, Minh and some other passengers wanted the bus to leave, since it was already full of passengers, but Chinh did not agree, saying it was not the time for departure.
When Minh and Dinh asked Chinh to return the money they had paid for their tickets, Chinh used a chain to beat Minh while Truong used the flick knife to stab him in the belly and thigh.
Dinh later received a serious stab wound that caused him to faint after he tried to stop the attackers from assaulting him.
Minh had his small intestine pierced through and his left thigh muscle torn, while Dinh suffered injuries to his aorta and the vein in his left thigh, doctors said.
Both patients underwent surgery and were given intensive care, doctors said.
Cao Van Xuan, chairman of the cooperative, said, “It was wrong for the driver and his assistant to attack Minh and Dinh, although they were drunk when they got on the bus.”
The cooperative has asked Chinh and Truong to give care to the two victims and pay compensation to their families, Xuan said.
