4 arrested for stabbing traffic cop in revenge attack

The Dong Nai police Wednesday arrested four young men who had allegedly injured a traffic police officer with knives as an act of revenge for frequently stopping and fining a truck one of them drove.

In apprehending Nguyen Van Phi, Vo Van Luu, both 19, Hoang Sang The Xieu, 22, and Ngo Thanh Tuan, 35, they were helped by police in Ninh Thuan Province, where the men are based.

They had stabbed Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Thien Loc on the night of July 31, inflicting multiple injuries, including perforations in the intestines and cut tendons in the hands.

Phi had planned the attack on Loc after being regularly stopped while driving ducks on the Ninh Thuan-Dong Nai route and penalized for various violations.

Investigations are continuing.

More attacks on policemen were reported Wednesday in Dong Nai and the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Six dog thieves shot back at officers in Dong Nai with handmade guns, injuring one, when they were ordered to stop while carrying cages with dogs on three motorbikes. The thieves managed to escape.

In Quang Ninh, two bag snatchers, aged 23 and 25, were arrested for shooting at the police.
