Two people died and 17 others were seriously injured in a collision between a bus and a truck in Dong Nai province's Xuan Loc district, local authorities reported.
The accident occurred at 1:20 pm Wednesday when the bus, coming from HCM City, suddenly crashed into the truck, which was leaving Dong Nai in the opposite direction on National Highway 1A.
The bus driver was Ly Chanh Phong, 41 of southern Can Tho Province, while the truck was driven by Truong Van Hiep, 44, of central Binh Dinh Province.
The violent collision killed Mai Mi Sen, 57, who was the bus owner, on the spot, and severely injured Phong and 17 passengers on the bus.
All of the victims were taken to the Xuan Loc District General Hospital, but one of them, 69-year-old Do Thi Nhang, a woman from southern Ca Mau Province, died on the way.
Local traffic police were called to the scene to handle the accident, which caused heavy traffic congestion on a 2km-stretch of highway.
Phong told police that he had lost control of the bus due to the slippery road caused by heavy rain. As a result, the vehicle drifted into the wrong lane and hit the truck.
The police are continuing their investigation of the deadly accident.
