(ĐN)- In response to Earth Day 2012, Big C supermarket chain collected 230 kilos of used batteries nationwide last weekend.

The annual collection was launched two years ago to raise public awareness of climate change and environmental protection. The event got strong support from local residents and received 100 kilos of used batteries in 2010 and 140 kilos in 2011.

Batteries are harmful waste when being discharged into the environment. Therefore, via leaflets, posters and emails, Big C has mobilized local people and employees to place used batteries in collection boxes at their nearest Big C supermarket instead of discarding them into the environment. All batteries were transferred to a factory specializing in toxic garbage treatment.
