The project to upgrade Provincial Road 769 in Dong Nai to facilitate bauxite transport from Tan Rai Alumina Plant to Go Dau Port has been assigned to the province with the total capital of VND600 billion.
Nguyen Van Vy, Deputy Director of Dong Nai’s Department of Transport, said the overall design and the upgrade scheme has been completed. A bidding round will be held to pick up contractors before kicking off construction.
A portion of the total expenditure of VND600 billion for road and bridge upgrade will be funded by Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (Vinacomin). The specific contribution of Vinacomin will be discussed at the coming meeting between Dong Nai, the Ministry of Transport and Vinacomin, said Vy.
The section of Provincial Road 769 from Dau Giay T-junction to Go Dau Port is the final part of the 210-kilometer bauxite route running from Tan Rai Alumina Plant in Lam Dong to Go Dau Port, Dong Nai.
Under the scheme made by the Vietnam Road Administration, the Provincial Road 725 section from Tan Rai plant to National Highway 20 in Lam Dong, a part of National Highway 20 and the Provincial Road 769 section from Dau Giay to Long Thanh, Dong Nai will need upgrade.
While Ke Ga Port in Binh Thuan has not been built, alumina will be transported from Tan Rai to Bao Loc Municipality via Provincial Road 725, and then via National Highway 20, through Provincial Road 769, to Go Dau Port for export.
Previously on December 23, 2011, the transport ministry commenced construction to upgrade National Highway 20 under the Build-Transfer (BT) format. The upgrade of this road is expected for completion by the end of 2014.
