The latest statistics showed that the number of newly-infected HIV cases in Dong Nai decreased from 600 in 2010 to 354 in 2011. However, it was estimated that 5,913 people are living with HIV in the province this year, 2,217 of whom have developed full-blown AIDS and 1,437 have died of the disease so far.

Thanks to the health care sector’s efforts, the province has seen an increase in the number of HIV patients receiving treatment over the past time. Presently, around 783 adults and 51 children are receiving ARV treatment.

At the seminar, participants emphasized the need to work out programmes for high risk groups, strongly reform legal and policy frameworks related to HIV and mobilise resources to ensure sustainable budget for the fight against HIV/AIDS.

On this occasion, Dong Nai Department of Health and Doctor Nguyen Thu Ha in HIV/AIDS Prevention Centre received certificates of merit of Prime Minister; 15 collectives and 19 individuals got certificates of merit of Ministry of Health.
