(ĐN)- Dong Nai saw a dramatic decrease of traffic accidents but a rise of the death toll in road accidents between January and September this year.
According to the statistics from the Dong Nai Traffic Police Department, 648 traffic accidents have occurred in the province over a 9-month period, killing 272 people and injuring 819 others, showing an increase of nearly 8 per cent in the number of deaths and a decrease of nearly 17 percent in the number of accidents when compared to the same period last year.
Traffic accidents in province were mostly caused by carelessness and poor awareness on the part of drivers. Over 24 per cent of road accidents were caused by car drivers, while over 70 per cent were by motorbike riders and over 4 per cent were by others.
During January and September this year, there was a significant increase in both the number of of railway accidents and fatalities.
