(ĐN)- Dong Nai saw a dramatic decrease of traffic accidents but a rise of the death toll in road accidents between January and June this year.
According to the statistics from the Dong Nai Traffic Police Department, 445 traffic accidents have occurred in the province over a 6-month period, killing 200 people and injuring 566 others, showing an increase of over 11 per cent in the number of deaths and a decrease of over 16 percent in the number of accidents when compared to the same period last year.
Traffic accidents in province were mostly caused by carelessness and poor awareness on the part of drivers.
During January and June this year, there was an increase of over 44 per cent and in the number of railway accidents and a rise of over 142 per cent in the number of deaths.
During the meeting with the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee on July 21 for reviewing the traffic safety situation in the province in the first six months of 2011, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Dinh Quoc Thai asked relevant agencies to strengthen communication and education to raise the awareness and responsibilities on traffic safety for local residents as well as carry out strict enforcement measures.
