The May 20 election concluded in harmony with clement weather and concord among the people. Elderly people, aged between 80-90 also cast their ballots to select the most prospective candidates to the 12th National Assembly (NA) – the NA of the nation’s integration era. The

The election was widely covered by many large foreign news agencies. The Japanese NHK television spent three minutes carrying news on the election and also plans to spend a further 30 minutes featuring the event.
NHK said Vietnamese voters want to select prospective deputies to the NA in order to have a powerful body, which is closer to the people and helps facilitate business activities and devise proper investment policies to further attract domestic and foreign investment.
According to Reuters, the Renewal policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam has opened the economy to market reforms and business competition that have improved citizens living standards.
The Election Council will collect the election results from localities after May 27 and announce the final results and the list of elected candidates on June 9. The new NA is due to convene the first session in mid-July.
May 20 turned into a big national festival. Vietnamese voters fulfilled the first step towards building the most powerful body in the context of the country’s deep integration into the global economy. The country has been making great efforts to achieve a sustainable and dynamic development with the aim of pulling the country out of the underdeveloped-nation status and becoming an industrialized nation.
With the great success of the election and lessons drawn from the previous legislature, the 12th NA is expected to fulfill national development tasks in the new period set by the 10th National Party Congress.
