Le Thai Son, 31, from the northern province of Vinh Phuc, has been included on this year's list of Innovators under 35 by MIT Technology Review for managing to increase optical fibre transmission by 50 percent.

Le Thai Son, 31, from the northern province of Vinh Phuc, has been included on this year’s list of Innovators under 35 by MIT Technology Review for managing to increase optical fibre transmission by 50 percent.
To send more information through the fibre, the intensity of the pulses needs to be increased. However, this causes the light to distort.
Son, who currently works at Nokia Bell Labs in Stuttgart, Germany, developed a method to avoid this distortion, allowing 50 per cent faster transmission of data through the cable.
Son also came up with a solution to raise the maximum data rate from 40 gigabytes to 256 gigabytes per second, setting a world record, according to MIT Technology Review.
The tech genius now wants to raise the capacity of fibre optic cables even more while keeping costs the same.
Innovators under 35 is an annual list touching upon a wide range of fields, including biotechnology, computer hardware, energy, transportation, communications, and the internet.
