The global-scale cyber security competition Whitehat Grand Prix 2018, themed Legends of Vietnam, is scheduled to begin on August 18.
According to deputy head of the Information Security Department Nguyen Huy Dung, the competition is a solution to promote human resources development on information safety and security.
The content of the Whitehat Grand Prix 2018 are set to be developed around 18 Vietnamese legends in a bid to promote the country’s culture. IT engineers behind the content come from the Information Security Department, Viettel’s cyber security centre, and BKAV Corporation, among others.
The online qualification round of the event will run for a straight 24 hours on August 18 and 19. Ten outstanding teams survived the round will gather in Hanoi in mid-October to compete directly for eight consecutive hours. The final round will cover the challenge of overcoming hardware security breaches.
Online registration has been opened at www.WhiteHat.vn starting July 31.
The first-prize winner will pocket 230 million VND (10,000 USD), while the second and third will go home with approximately 45 million VND and 25 million VND (2,000 and 1,000 USD), respectively.
In 2014, the first WhiteHat Grand Prix was held simultaneously in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It became an annual international competition the next year, drawing the participation of leading cyber security teams all over the world.
In 2017, it attracted 453 teams from 62 nations and territories.
