Of more than 3,300 highly cited scientific researchers named by Clarivate Analytics, four are Vietnamese.

Prof Dr Nguyen Son Binh and Associate Prof Dr Nguyen Xuan Hung have been on the list for a number of years.

Nguyen Son Binh from Northwestern University is a researcher in chemistry. His studies involve inorganic/organic metal, organic synthesis and polymers with deep studies in porous materials, graphene/graphene oxide and biological materials.

One of his most cited publications to date is ‘Graphene-based composite materials’, published in Nature in 2006 which has 9,400 quotations.

Prof Dr Nguyen Thuc Quyen from California University in Santa Barbara has many publications in the field of material science. Her research focuses mainly on organic electronics (such as organic solar cells, organic LEDs and organic transistors); and conjugated polyelectrolytes and biomaterials in bioelectric devices used in the energy, environment and medicine sectors.

Dr Phan Hung, one of the members in Quyen’s research team, said an important reason for Quyen’s works to be quoted by colleagues is her relationship and collaboration with many leading scientists when carrying out important research.

Prof Dr Vo Van Anh from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, has been named in the lists of most cited researchers for the second time.

Anh works in a very wide sphere of mathematics - mathematics science, computational mathematics and applied mathematics. He focuses on developing new theoretical and applied methods of spherical random fields, random models of spatiotemporal nonlinear diffusion processes with the characteristics of multifractal systems, statistical estimation and approximation of diffuse anomalies.

His calculations can be used to analyze the salinity intrusion in the aquifer, the signals of heart cells, or microscopic fluctuations of the background radiation field.

Of the four Vietnamese scientists, Associate Prof Nguyen Xuan Hung from the HCMC University of Technology is the youngest (he was born in 1976) and the only researcher working in Vietnam.

Having studied in the field of computer science and computational mechanics, he has developed computer-based computational and numerical tools to create numerical models that can be applied to a wide variety of fields such as engineering, biomechanics and materials science.

In ISI journal alone, he has 120 scientific articles which have more than 4,400 quotes. Hung’s research works have been used in real projects, including work on preventing landslides in the Mekong Delta funded by VLIR-UOS Fund from Belgium.

According to Le Van Canh from the HCMC National University, most of Hung’s articles have been published in prestigious journals belonging to Q1 and Q2 groups of computational mechanics.
