A damaged intra-Asia submarine cable system will be repaired between Jul. 12 and Jul. 19, which will hurt Vietnam's international internet traffic, a source told Thanh Nien.
The source from Viettel, a major service provider, said the TGN-Intra Asia Cable System (TGN-IA) has been damaged since late last month.
The system will be powered down for repair work during the period, the source said.
The TGN-IA cable is used by many service providers in Vietnam, including Viettel, FPT Telecom, CMC, and VNPT. It spans 6800 km, linking Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan with an additional connection to the Philippines, Vietnam and Guam.
Vietnam is connected to four international submarine Internet cable systems, namely the AAG (Asia America Gateway), SMW3 (Southeast Asia - Middle East - Western Europe 3), TVH (Thailand-Việt Nam-Hong Kong) and IA (Intra Asia).
Internet speed in the country slowed down last month when the AAG cable, which accounts for more than 60 of Vietnam’s international traffic, underwent a scheduled maintenance.
