Vietnam currently has only one remote sensing satellite, VNREDSat-1, launched in 2013.
The supply of satellite images used for monitoring environmental changes is far from meeting the demand, Pham Anh Tuan, director of the center, was quoted as saying.
Two of the new satellites, NanoDragon and MicroDragon, will be ready for launch in 2018. LOTUSat-1 and LOTUSat-2 are scheduled for March 2019 and sometime between 2021 and 2020, he said.
With the exception of LOTUSat-1, which will be made in Japan, others will be developed locally by Vietnamese engineers, according to Tuan.
Vietnam launched two communications satellites VINASAT-1 and VINASAT-2 in 2008 and 2012.
