Tran Viet Thanh, deputy minister of Science and Technology, said the MoU would help the ministry take main responsibility in a comprehensive program on public information and communications in this area.

This is a priority mission in the first stage of Vietnam’s nuclear development plan on the national project of information and communications for nuclear power development as clarified in Decision No. 370/QD-TTg.

Vyacheslav Pershukov, deputy director general of ROSATOM, said the cooperation deal highlights several main points, including raising public knowledge of nuclear power and radiation in Vietnam and inviting representatives from both sides to relevant meetings and events.

The two countries will also cooperate in developing and publishing nuclear power documents and holding conferences, seminars and exhibitions in the area of nuclear power technologies. Besides, there will be training courses for representatives of the media and civil servants in the information and communications sector.

The MoU was inked after a two-day meeting held for the ministry and ROSATOM to discuss issues like legal framework, nuclear safety, peaceful use of nuclear power, research and development (R&D), reactor research and Vietnam-Russia cooperation in nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
