Under the provincial Department of Science and Technology, Dong Nai Biotechnology Centre acts as a counselor to the department in development orientation, programme-making, biotechnology research and application in agriculture-forestry-fishery, environment, food-processing industry, and medicine and pharmacy. The centre is where the application is effective in cultivating crops and livestock with high productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness in the market. It also helps link the science and technology with the production, the scientific research institutions with farmers, local businesses and neighborhoods, bringing scientific research to practice
Located on an area of 207.8 hectares in Xuan Duong, Cam My district, Dong Nai province, the centre has 3 main buildings: administrative centre, research centre of science and biotechnology, and experimental production centre. Since it was established, the centre has determined its direction is to focus on application and selectively grasp the results of domestic and foreign research institutes and centres to build the empirical models and transfer the research results to producers.
Director Pham Van Sang of Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology said that the establishment of the centre is to create a premise to develop a high-tech area of biotechnology, leading the formation of urban science complex in the future.
Currently, the centre is implementing sixteen science and technology projects, nine of which are grouped in the agricultural sector. Particularly, the GAP mushroom production model have been admitted and transferred to farmers, bringing initial effective results. It is now developing models for growing cocoa and creating the market for this product. Besides, the center is also running some probiotics projects in Trang Bom district to eliminate odor during the manufacturing of organic fertilizer from animal waste. The projects that are initially applied during the production process have gained many benefits for producers in reducing environmental pollution and producing fertilizer from waste.
Along with the application of scientific achievements into production, Dong Nai Biotechnology Centre is also completing the infrastructure and building the operational mechanism to attract investment, training human resources and applying biotechnology in agriculture.
Although the centre was built under difficult conditions and lack of capital, it now creates a milestone through the active technology applied models in agricultural sector.
Over the past time, the centre has collaborated with University of Agriculture and Forestry, Ho Chi Minh University of Natural Sciences, HCM city Biotechnology Centre, HCM city high-tech agricultural zone, and South Eastern fruit research centre to introduce many application models with diverse technologies on fruits and vegetables.
During the last years, the centre has lured investment in some specialized biotechnology projects, attracted competent and passionate engineers with high qualifications. It is expected that the number of investors and scientific staff at the centre will continue to increase in the near future.
Ưith clear direction and highly selective high-tech applications through inheritance from the results of domestic and international research institutes, universities and research centres to build empirical models and transfer research results for production, Dong Nai Biotechnology Centre has become a bridge to put science in practice. This contributes greatly to the improvement of the production capacity for the farmers and businesses and becomes a new direction for social and economic development in the period of industrialization and modernization of the country.
