The two-day event, held jointly by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the provincial People’s Committee in response to the Vietnam Day of Science and Technology (May 18), aimed to create linkages between suppliers and customers in this sector.

The expo drew the participation of 250 units, from home and abroad, operating in the fields of biology, post-harvest preserving and processing, environment, cross breeding, and energy saving.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan stressed that during the past three decades of realising the national Doi Moi(Renewal) process, the science-technology sector had significantly contributed to facilitating the country’s considerable socio-economic development and improved living standards.

Sci-tech advances in agricultural production and aquaculture have helped Vietnam become one of the world-leading producers in rice, pepper, cashew nut, rubber and tra (pangasius) fish, he said.

He called on further effort and more positive participation from those working in the sci-tech field, as well as workers and farmers, to increase productivity and the quality of their products, in a bid to turn Vietnam into an industrialised country in the near future.
