The agreement was reached during talks in Vientiane on December 20 between head of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Chau Van Minh and Lao Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdala, who is also the President of the Lao National Academy of Social Science.
The two sides examined science and technology co-operation between their countries in the last couple of years and discussed orientations for working together in the time to come.
They agreed to jointly undertake scientific research studies in urgent fields to support the planning of socio-economic development policies and ensuring security and defence in each country.
They were unanimous in advocating a project draft to strengthen the Lao academy’s capacity in conducting scientific research for the period 2014-2016 and building key scientific programmes within a comprehensive co-operation agreement between Vietnam and Laos.
To enhance co-operation between the two academies and consolidate special bilateral relations, the Vietnamese side has been working with related Lao agencies on scientific projects and training human resources.
