Developing Vietnam’s human resources for its nuclear power sector dominated a seminar jointly held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Hanoi on August 27.

Speaking at the event, MoST Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tien said Vietnam attaches importance to building nuclear power infrastructure, especially human resources.

Following the National Assembly’s approval of the resolution on the investment of two nuclear power plants in the central province of Ninh Thuan, the Prime Minister ratified a project on nuclear power personnel training by 2020, he said.

According to the official, a steering committee on training and developing nuclear power human resources has been established to serve the project.

The committee has assigned the Ministry of Education and Training to roll out a master plan. Electricity of Vietnam and the MoST are also required to get involved in the project, Tien added.

He expressed his hope that IAEA experts and those from France and Germany will share their experience in this field to help Vietnam draw up the best human resources plan for the country’s first nuclear power project.

The seminar will last until August 29.
