Vietnam plans to launch third satellite in Q2

The Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) has signed a contract with Arianespace to launch VNREDSat-1A, Vietnam’s third satellite, into space in the second quarter of this year.

VNREDSat-1A, which will be launched by Arianespace’s Vega rocket, is intended for scientific purposes while Vietnam’s first two satellites VINASAT-1 and VINASAT-2, were put into space to provide telecommunications services.

The 120-kilogram satellite is being constructed by Astrium, an aerospace subsidiary of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, at a total cost of EUR55.2 million and funded with official development assistance from France

VNREDSAT-1A will be placed into sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 670 kilometres.
