The fairs are expected to attract more than 160 local and international exhibitors with a concurrent high-level summit and panel discussion seen by many as the key highlight of the event.

The summit is scheduled to gather 20 speakers from Government organisations and industrial giants to share the latest in ICT development trends in Viet Nam. They will discuss hot issues including current developments of ICT in the Government, health, education and community service sectors; opportunities and challenges for the 4G network in Viet Nam; and cloud computing and the application of ICT in enterprises.

At the exhibition, large global IT companies would feature various advanced services and technology, particularly 3G and 4G technology products, said Bui Quoc Viet, director of information and public relations for the Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).

Viet said the triple exposition was timely, as three years after launching the service, Viet Nam currently had more than 8 million 3G subscribers, adding that mobile phone subscribers were increasingly interested in using broadband services.

The VNPT was trying its best offer 4G technology as soon as possible and had worked with Alltech Telecom of Russia to establish the joint-venture RusViet Telecom company to deploy 4G technology, said Viet.

In 2010, the joint-venture company was issued with a 4G technology licence and became the first in Viet Nam to run Long Term Evolution (LTE) trials tests which is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data.

Local ICT experts predicted that in the next three years the country would see a rise in 3G subscribers thanks to the growing number of smart phones which offer the Android operating system.

According to International Telecommunication Union (ITU) statistics, Viet Nam ranks eighth in terms of mobile penetration. Currently, 93.68 per cent of the country has access to 3G services.

Former Minister of Ministry of Information and Communications Le Doan Hop said it would be appropriate for Viet Nam to implement the 4G network in 2013, or no later than 2015.
