Vietnam attends world telecom forum in Geneva

A Vietnamese delegation of the Ministry of Information and Communications headed by Deputy Minister Tran Duc Lai is attending a meeting on broadband and an exhibition on world telecom that opened in Geneva , Switzerland , on Oct. 25.

A Vietnamese delegation of the Ministry of Information and Communications headed by Deputy Minister Tran Duc Lai is attending a meeting on broadband and an exhibition on world telecom that opened in Geneva , Switzerland , on Oct. 25.

 

The event, themed “using technology to improve life”, is organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and draws over 1,500 governmental officials and representatives from the global technology community.

 

The ITU said the world will have about 2.3 billion internet users. The fastest growth is seen in developing countries with almost half of those accessing the internet being under 25. The latest statistics show that the world leading broadband economies are all in Europe, Asia and Pacific.

 

At the event, the Vietnamese delegation met and discussed with ITU General Secretary Hamadoun Touré on ITU’s cooperation and support for Vietnam as well as introduced the country’s information and communications development strategy and achievements.

The delegation also had bilateral working sessions with Indonesian and Malaysian delegations and senior officials from the Cisco group of the US, Fujitsu of Japan and Huawei of China.
