The number of businesses using software in human resource (HR) management has been increasing, while the solutions provided by hi-tech firms have been diversified, which both have helped heat up the HR management software market.

VNG or VinaGame is known as one of the first businesses in Vietnam that manage HR with software products. Since 2009, with 1000 workers, VNG has been using software to recruit workers, provide personnel information, do the timekeeping, and calculate salaries and insurance premiums.


Le Thi Ngoc Diep, HR Deputy General Director of VNG, said that the company is using iHRP software product provided by FPT. However, VNG has later developed more apps suitable to its business activities.

HR management software welcomed by more businesses

With understanding the importance of HR management software, Vinamilk and Unilever will also began using the software products very soon.

In 2005, Unilever Vietnam decided to buy a foreign HR management software product. However, as the company found it difficult to use the product, it has shifted to use HiStaff of Vietnamese Tinhvan Consulting.

Meanwhile, Unilever Vietnam has been using software in all works of HR management, from staff’s record management, timekeeping management, to salary management and system administration.

The Phu Thai Group, a well known Vietnamese retailer, has also been utilizing software products in its HR management. The software product has well met the requirements for managing more than 2000 workers of the chain from 20 subsidiaries.

The representative of the company said that the biggest benefit in using software in HR management is not that it allows saving expenses, but that it allows finding information about any employees immediately when necessary.

A lot of other businesses and institutions such as Sacombank, Prudential, Manulife, Sony, BAT and Pepsi, Masan, RMIT, PV Gas, KPMG, SeaBank, Gtel Mobile, Spindex Vietnam, and Theodore Alexander Vietnam have also been reportedly utilizing software products in their HR management effectively.

More and more solutions provided

The HR management software market has become more bustling with the appearance of different solution providers. Of these, iHRP and HiStaff prove to be the most popular ones.

FPT, the Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technologies, joined the HR management software market in 2002, and it has provided solutions to nearly 100 clients so far, who are mostly big domestic economic groups and international corporations. Of these, Sacombank seems to be the biggest client which now has nearly 10,000 workers. FPT’s iHRP product fits the businesses with 80 and more workers.

Meanwhile, Tinhvan Consulting joined the market in 2006 when launching HiStaff. Nguyen Huy Cuong, General Director of Tinhvan Consulting, said that the revenue from HiStaff has been increasing steadily by 100 percent per annum which brings 60 percent of the total revenue of Tinhvan Consulting.

The strong point of HiStaff is that it has been always updated with the new regulations of the Labor Code and it can satisfy the specific requirements of employers.

Le Nguyen Diem, Deputy General Director of FPT Software, believes that using HR management software is now considered the necessary condition for businesses to effectively manage HR. Therefore, this is really a vast market for solution providers.

However, he said that the requirements of clients on HR management software products are getting higher. “They (businesses) nowadays not only want the software pieces which allow calculating salaries for workers, they need the ones which can provide overall solutions.

A lot of IT firms have joined the market after realizing the high demand for computerizing HR management activities. BKAV, which has been well known for its anti-virus products, is working out on HR management software products. Meanwhile, Misa, which has been well known for accountancy software products, has also joined the market for the last two months.
