3G services getting cheaper…

It seems that telecom companies have been determined to turn 3G services into “street rice”, a popular meal for common people. Most recently, MobiFone, one of the three biggest mobile network operators, has introduced the super-cheap 3G service package called “FCU”, which is considered the lever to stimulate the demand.

With the package, the users can use the service with no capacity limit, while they have to pay 120,000 dong a month only at maximum. This is a part of the telco’s strategy to make 3G services more popular and affordable to many people.

Prior to that, a series of measures to stimulate the demand had also been taken by the mobile network operator. Since August 10, 2011, MobiFone’s Center No 2 has been carrying out direct sale and marketing activities for simcards and Fast Connect device reserved for the subscribers using mobile Internet services in HCM City.

The representative of MobiFone said that the sale and marketing campaign last from August 10 to August 25, in populated areas and the areas where there are many offices and students in the city. Together with the direct marketing campaign, MobiFone has “fortified” the Fast Connect 3G package with attractive preferences.

Fast Connect’s new pre-paid subscribers have 115,000 dong in their accounts, which allows using the capacity of up to 1.8Gb. Besides, they can also receive the bonus equal to 50 percent of the value of the cards they purchase in the next 10 times. Also, they can get the “gift” of 25,000 dong to be added into their accounts in the next 12 months from the day of successful activation.

FCU has been considered the most important lever so far launched by MobiFone to persuade people to use its 3G services. Users can use the capacity of up to 2Gbs at the maximum speed of 7.2Mbps. Especially, after using up 2Gbs, users still can access Internet free at the maximum speed of 256Kbps.

Viettel, also one of the three biggest mobile network operators, the owner of Dcom 3G product, a USB 3G, has also allowed its clients to use the pre-paid service package with which they just have to pay 120,000 dong a month for unlimited capacity.

With Dcom 3G of Viettel and FCU by MobiFone, people can access the Internet with their mobile equipment at the lowest possible costs, while they do not have to worry about the overuse and the empty accounts

… so they can become more popular

Viettel, MobiFone and VinaPhone, the three biggest mobile network operators in Vietnam, all have affirmed that they can see the numbers of 3G service subscribers increasing rapidly.

Ngo Dien Hy, a senior executive of VinaPhone, said that the network now has 2 million regular subscribers who usually use the services. Meanwhile, if counting the 3G subscribers using the service within one month, the figure would be 7 million.

Explaining the rapid growth rate of the number of 3G subscribers, VinaPhone said that the network operator has provided added value services for 3G such as multimedia services, games for mobiles and radio and news services.

Another reason has been cited is that VinaPhone has been the official distributor of iPhone products in Vietnam since March 2010, and the data service has been increasing sharply because of the high demand from iPhone subscribers.

Hy has forecast that in 3G subscribers would develop strongly in the next three years with the rise of smart phone series using Android operation system.

Nguyen Ngoc Thinh, a senior executive of MobiFone, also believes that 3G would see high growth in the near future. MobiFone’s survey has found out that 18 percent of clients aged 15-25 usually use multimedia services.

A recent survey conducted by MobiFone has shown a surprising result: up to 80 percent of people use 3G services right at their home, even though there are alternative solutions, including ADSL. This shows that mobile broadband has become a new growing tendency.
