At the ceremony, more than 130 members from green clubs (who are people living in and around the forest area of Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve) along with youth union members of Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve participated in a parade in response to World Elephant Day in Ba Hao hamlet, Tri An commune.
This is the 5th year that Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve has maintained this meaningful activity to honor elephants - symbols of strength, wisdom, and resilience, and at the same time remind the unit's staff and people of their shared responsibility to protect this rare animal.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dinh Thi Lan Huong, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve, said that elephants are not only rare wild animals but are also associated with the culture and beliefs of many South Asian and Southeast Asian countries. The image of elephants appears in myths, festivals, and temples. In Vietnam, elephants are also a symbol associated with the nation's glorious history.

Asian elephants are listed as endangered animals in the Vietnam Red Book and endangered in the IUCN Red List. Currently, Vietnam has about 104 wild elephants, and Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve is home to about 25-27 large and small elephants.
Dong Nai province will continue to implement the national action plan on elephant conservation in Vietnam until 2035, with a vision to 2050, and promote propaganda on the protection of endangered, precious, and rare wild animals in general and wild elephants in particular to all people in the area.
"Wildlife and natural resource conservation cannot succeed without community participation. Therefore, we hope that people will always remain calm in all situations to handle and coordinate with Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve and local authorities to join hands in elephant conservation," Huong shared.
