Previously, on May 2, Mr. Chu Van Cong (residing in Binh Tien hamlet, Xuan Phu commune, Xuan Loc district) voluntarily handed over the slow loris he had caught near his home. The slow loris, scientifically named Nycticebus pygmaeus, is a primate and a rare animal.
Both the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book classify the slow loris as endangered (Group IB), facing the risk of extinction and needing conservation. Vietnamese law strictly prohibits its exploitation and use for commercial purposes.
Officials from the Inter-district Forest Protection Department of Xuan Loc - Long Khanh City said that this slow loris was released back into the forest in good health and Mr. Cong's action is highly commendable.
