Dong Nai City was established on the basis of the entire natural area and population of the former Dong Nai Province. The city borders Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong Province, Tay Ninh Province, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. Dong Nai City has a natural area of 12,737.18 square kilometers, a population of 4,491,408 people, and 95 commune-level administrative units, including 33 wards and 62 communes.
Dong Nai City currently serves as a strategic gateway directly connecting development corridors and the nation’s largest economic center, Ho Chi Minh City, with the Central Highlands, the South Central Coast, and the Mekong Delta. With increasingly synchronized and modern socio-economic infrastructure systems, especially in transportation, industry, services, and logistics, along with the Long Thanh International Airport currently under rapidly progressing construction, Dong Nai City possesses all the characteristics of a major urban center with strong development potential, featuring multi-centered and multi-functional urban planning, and significant spillover effects across the Southern region and the nation as a whole.
At the ceremony, Party General Secretary, State President To Lam presented Resolution No. 30/2026/QH16 of NA on the establishment of Dong Nai City to the standing members of the Dong Nai City Party Committee.
