Although the preliminary medical examination for military service has just begun, around 30 young men from Xuan Loc Commune, Dong Nai Province, have already submitted applications to volunteer for enlistment in early 2026.
It is recorded at this locality that 2026 marks the first year of recruitment under the two-tier local government model. Therefore, the entire political system has been mobilized to ensure the best possible pool of citizens for enlistment, contributing to building an elite, compact, and strong military force.
Continuing the tradition of their forefathers
Reading the volunteer applications of Xuan Loc youths, one common message stands out that is the desire to enlist voluntarily, continue the legacy of their ancestors, and firmly safeguard the Fatherland in the new situation.
At 20 years old, Truong Van Quy, a resident of Trung Hieu Hamlet, Xuan Loc Commune, currently studying industrial electricity at Cao Thang Technical College (Ho Chi Minh City), expressed in his application the wish to join the army in early 2026. In his letter, Quy also shared his aspiration to become more disciplined, more mature, and to follow in his forefathers’ footsteps by continuing the story of peace in this new period.

“In my high school lessons, and especially through the two national events A50 and A80 in 2025, I realized that I must take responsibility for continuing the story of peace and the tradition of defending our country. I can continue my studies after completing military service, but youth only comes once — and the age for enlistment is from 18 to 25 (or 27 for university graduates). That’s why I decided to volunteer,” Quy said.
Not only did Quy volunteer, but he also thoroughly researched the legal age for enlistment before writing his application, eager to uphold his family and homeland’s tradition of serving the country.
Meanwhile, Tran Tuan Hieu, a resident of Hamlet 7, arrived early at the Xuan Truong Health Center for his physical examination. He shared: “I hope to be selected for enlistment in 2026 to fulfill my dream of continuing the family tradition as my grandfather once served in the army. Once enlisted, I’ll do my best to earn the chance to serve long-term in the military.”
Hieu added that his mother was the happiest and the most supportive when he expressed his wish to join the military service, proud that her son had grown up, matured, and understood his duty to the homeland.
According to the provincial Military Service Council, during the preliminary medical checkups, officers from the regional defense command are present at each examination cluster to monitor and promptly support localities. At Xuan Loc Commune, Colonel Tran Phuong Dong, Commander of the Long Khanh Regional Defense Command No. 2, and his team arrived early to inspect and assist the local process
Young men such as Nguyen Hong Nhan and Tran Xuan Trien, both residents of Suoi Cat 1 Hamlet, Xuan Loc Commune, have also submitted their volunteer enlistment applications for 2026. For them, the army represents a great school where young people can train, grow, and develop a stronger sense of responsibility toward their homeland and the nation.
“When I was in high school, I was deeply moved by the line: ‘Man’s dearest possession is life. It is given to him but once, and he must live it so as not to be tormented for years without purpose’ — from How the Steel Was Tempered by Soviet writer Nikolai Ostrovsky. Along with literature, history, and real-life examples of how the army has helped the people, I’ve realized I must take greater responsibility for my country,” said Nhan.
Preparing the best pool of citizens for military enlistment
Le Khac Son, Deputy Party Secretary and Chairman of the Xuan Loc Commune People’s Committee, shared: “Although this is the first year implementing the two-tier local government model for recruitment — which poses certain challenges, with the youth’s sense of responsibility and the coordinated efforts of the entire political system, Xuan Loc will surely meet and exceed the recruitment targets in both quantity and quality.”
“The 30 volunteer applications we have received demonstrate the patriotism and determination of Xuan Loc’s young generation to defend the Fatherland. This provides a solid foundation for ensuring a high-quality enlistment source,” Son emphasized.
In fact, during the preliminary medical checks, local youths arrived early in large numbers. Their participation reflects not only their civic duty but also their eagerness to contribute to the nation’s defense in the coming spring. This shows that Xuan Loc has done an excellent job in propaganda and mobilization, continuing its tradition of meeting and surpassing recruitment targets each year.
Vo Nhu Giang, Standing Vice Chairman of the Commune Military Service Council and Commander of the Xuan Loc Commune Military Command, said: “We have advised the local Party Committee, authorities, and the Military Service Council to coordinate closely with the Long Khanh Regional Defense Command No. 2 and the Provincial Military Service Council to carefully screen candidates, manage the examination process, and maintain security and order at all sites.”
“This is a mandatory target that must be fulfilled at the beginning of the year. That’s why we’re focusing our efforts, staying close to the grassroots level, and ensuring the best outcomes — selecting strong, capable young men for enlistment,” Giang emphasized.
Le Van Tung, Head of the Xuan Loc Commune Health Station and in charge of the Xuan Truong examination site, noted: “From the first days of the preliminary checks, what we’ve seen most clearly is that the young men coming in are all volunteering, eager to be selected. Their health is generally good, and their spirit of volunteerism shines through their faces — a positive sign for having an excellent pool of recruits for 2026.”
