Gia Kiem commune covers more than 82 square kilometers with a population of nearly 80,000 people, over 98% of whom are religious followers, primarily Catholics.

Under the leadership and direction of the Gia Kiem commune Party Committee and authorities, officials, Party members, and people from all walks of life in the commune have upheld the tradition of national solidarity, joining efforts to build an increasingly prosperous homeland.

Helping one another stabilize life

Gia Kiem commune has fertile land with a large agricultural area. Taking advantage of these strengths, residents have developed an agriculture-based economy.

Pham Van Ray, a Party member in Gia Kiem commune, is regarded as a model in agricultural economic development. He started with one hectare of farmland given by his parents when he got married. From this land, he raised livestock and cultivated crops, boldly choosing market-demand products while applying science and technology to pursue clean farming practices. With rising income, he purchased additional land to expand production. He now owns dozens of hectares, mainly growing durian and raising ducks and pigs with high-tech methods, generating considerable income for his family.

People from both inside and outside the commune have come to Pham Van Ray to learn farming practices. He has always been willing to share knowledge and provide technical assistance.

With better economic conditions, Ray has been eager to support the commune’s social welfare efforts. One of the good impressions he has left in the hearts of the commune’s residents was donating land and funds to build a road. In the past, the road leading to Tram 11 area in Lac Son hamlet, former Quang Trung commune (now Gia Kiem) was muddy and slippery during the rainy season, hindering the transport of farm produce. Witnessing these hardships, Ray donated 9,000 square meters of land and contributed VND 500 million, while residents raised VND 900 million, to complete a VND 2.7 billion road project with State support. The new road greatly eased transportation for locals.

Afterward, seeing that many households still lacked electricity, Ray advanced VND 500 million to extend the low-voltage power grid for agricultural production. Since then, with road access and electricity, productivity has improved, traders have come directly to farms for purchases, and local incomes have risen.

Besides Ray, the commune has many other examples of successful farmers helping one another achieve legitimate prosperity. For example, Pham Van Nghien was among the first in Gia Kiem commune to adopt cold-house poultry farming, raising tens of thousands of chickens per batch. His family produces three batches annually. Using chicken manure, his family apply biological fermentation with probiotics as fertilizer for tissue-cultured bananas. This model generates billions of dong in annual income and provides stable jobs for more than 10 workers.

“To achieve the goals set for the 2025–2030 term, Gia Kiem commune Party Organization has identified one of the key solutions as enhancing its position and role, while further promoting effectiveness in the leadership and guidance of the Party Committee and in the administration of the local government; building a contingent of officials and Party members with strong ethics and competence, promoting their pioneering role while fostering resilience, self-reliance, and aspirations for local development. The commune will continue to streamline its organizational apparatus, enhance efficiency, build digital governance and a digital society, and establish a friendly administration where citizen satisfaction is the benchmark, ensuring that people truly feel happiness in this new era,” said

Comrade Nguyen Huy Du, Party Secretary and Chairman of the People’s Council of Gia Kiem commune.

Bringing happiness to the people

According to Ha Thi Linh Thuy, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Kiem commune, in recent years the communal Party Committee, local authorities, Fatherland Front, and social-political organizations have actively mobilized residents to leverage local advantages for economic development, participate in emulation movements, and study and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality, and style.

Local officials have remained close to residents, promptly addressing legitimate concerns and building social consensus. Particularly given its religious characteristics, the Party Committee, authorities, and political system have maintained close ties with religious dignitaries, encouraging residents and followers alike to actively engage in emulation drives and campaigns in order to make the homeland increasingly prosperous and improve the residents’ livelihoods.

Father Ngo Cong Su, Pastor of Ninh Phat Parish and Dean of Gia Kiem Deanery, said: “Residents and parishioners here are hardworking and industrious. With the attention of local Party and government leaders, parishioners feel secure in production and eager to contribute to local development. For instance, in building new-style rural areas, advanced new-style rural areas, and model rural areas, many parishioners have donated thousands of square meters of land and billions of dong for rural road construction, helping each other escape poverty and enabling the commune to meet advanced and model new rural standards.”

According to the commune’s Fatherland Front Committee, during new-style rural construction, residents have donated more than 6,400 square meters of land, 3,250 workdays, and over VND 16.5 billion for roads and irrigation. More than 95% of residents now participate in health insurance, and 95% of households are recognized as cultural families each year.

Following the motto of “Leaving no one behind,” since 2020, the communal Fatherland Front has mobilized over VND 3 billion for the “For the Poor” Fund and social welfare programs, provided 1,023 health insurance cards to disadvantaged households, and built or repaired 19 charity houses worth more than VND 2 billion.

Innovative practices by the political system and active participation from residents have helped reduce the commune’s poverty rate to just 0.24%.

Along with these positive outcomes in social welfare, Gia Kiem commune has also achieved notable results in other fields. For instance, Party membership development has been prioritized, with 205 new members admitted since 2020, most of them religious followers.

Party Secretary and Chairman of the People’s Council of Gia Kiem commune Nguyen Huy Du noted: “Based on the achievements of recent years, the 1st Gia Kiem commune Party Congress for the 2025–2030 term has set the goal of developing Gia Kiem into a comprehensively modern and sustainable commune, progressing toward urban status by 2030.
