In Dong Nai province, diplomacy is one of the important tasks that receives close attention and guidance from the provincial leadership. It is because the province is one of the country's industrial hubs with more than 2,000 active foreign-invested projects, and along with boasting an important position in the region as well as in the whole country, Dong Nai must ensure the task of preserving and maintaining good relations with bordering countries.

Adapting to new situations

Compared to the diplomatic sector of the whole country, diplomatic work in Dong Nai has been focused for the past 20 years. However, with the attention, leadership, and direction of provincial and central leaders, Dong Nai's diplomatic sector has still made its hallmarks, contributing to elevating the province's position.

Director of the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs Huynh Thi Be Nam said: In recent times, the department has proactively advised and implemented foreign affairs activities, strengthened international cooperation, connected friendships, and well controlled the border in a peaceful and cooperative manner, contributing to the cause of economic, cultural, and social development as well as the international integration of the province.

Since July 2025, Dong Nai's diplomatic work has experienced many changes in the fields of economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, and border diplomacy, etc. To promptly adapt to the new situation, the Department of Foreign Affairs has advised the province on diplomatic work. Accordingly, Party diplomacy, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy, border management, international cooperation, and engagement with foreign consulates in Vietnam have been maintained and achieved high effectiveness.

Sharing about the coordination in implementing the province's border defense external affairs, Colonel Dao Cong Ly, Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Border Guard Command, under the Dong Nai Provincial Military Command, said: In recent times, the Provincial Border Guard Command has well performed its national defense and security work, protecting the integrity of national border sovereignty. In addition, the Provincial Border Guard Command has effectively managed border gates. It has also strengthened the management of entry and exit at border gates, ensuring border gate security in the province. At the same time, the Provincial Border Guard Command has presided over coordination with departments and branches to survey planning, newly open and upgrade border gates, and advise the Provincial People's Committee on border security work.

The Provincial Border Guard Command has always maintained close coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs, advising the Provincial People's Committee to organize foreign affairs activities with the authorities of the border provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia, strengthening and tightening the friendship relations in the border areas between the two countries. The work of guiding and managing foreign delegations paying working visits to the province is well coordinated.

Enhancing the local position

Dong Nai is located in the Southern Key Economic Zone, close to major economic centers and the busiest seaport system in the country. In particular, the province has the Long Thanh International Airport Project under construction and is expected to be put into operation in 2026. Along with the potential for economic development and border trade services with localities in Cambodia, Dong Nai will continue to be an ideal destination for investors around the world.

In its planning, Dong Nai province allocates a large area of rubber plantations, which facilitates site clearance, to develop more industrial parks, including high-tech and information technology parks, etc., aiming at developing modern, sustainable and environmentally friendly industry.

Therefore, along with the potential for economic development and border trade services with Cambodian localities in the coming time, Dong Nai province is very interested in solutions to promote the attraction of high-tech, environmentally friendly projects in three spearhead groups, including aviation technology; semiconductor technology, chip manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence (AI); automation equipment and information technology equipment.

In his congratulatory letter on the 80th anniversary of the diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945 - 2025), Party General Secretary To Lam affirmed: "The effective diplomatic method, as proven through history, lies in closely combining national strength with the strength of the times; and in closely and synchronously coordinating across all three pillars: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy under the leadership of the Party".

Delivering his guidance on the province’s diplomatic work at the 80th founding anniversary of the diplomatic sector, Member of the Provincial Standing Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son requested the Department of Foreign Affairs to advise the Provincial People's Committee on strategies to promote the image and potential of Dong Nai abroad in the coming time. Accordingly, it is necessary to devise a specific plan to create a strong impact, contributing to increasing investment attraction in Dong Nai, and supporting the most comprehensive development of the local socio-economic sectors. In particular, to meet the needs of foreign affairs and communication with foreign delegations, the Department of Foreign Affairs should pay attention to developing a team of interpreters fluent in multiple languages, always ready and well-prepared to serve many international delegations upon their simultaneous arrivals in Dong Nai.
